The consortium exists to promote the free exchange of CT scans of COVID-19 patients, for use in research, education and understanding of this pandemic.We found a lack of images to be a major obstacle to innovation, and a real eye-opener. These images are critical for the Ai community and others to innovate and contribute to solving a global problem.But since many in the community have either a misunderstanding of HIPAA and similar European laws, or are covered in too much red tape to cut, the Ai community, and indeed many other communities are shut out.We decided the join forces so collectively we can unfreeze the data trapped in bureaucracies, and allow many talented people from around the globe to contribute to a solution.
